Prologue:
This project appears as an art gallery that responds to the growing number of artists in the city of Luanda who need spaces to exhibit their works, as well as a cultural space where other people feel connected with art under an atmosphere unique space provided by direct and indirect natural light.
We sought to design a sustainable space, where natural light is the common denominator in every corner, providing warm, cozy and sustainable interiors.
Concept:
The choice of the triangle as a guideline for the format of this art gallery is based on the understanding that triangles represent primordial geometry, if triangles constitute the basis of primordial geometry, light in turn constitutes the primordial element of time. Just as the triangle provides a reason for geometry, light provides a reason for time. Just as the triangle builds geometry, light builds time.
The idea was to create an exhibition space with an atmosphere that creates introspection into a series of geometric shapes that are crossed by light. The project suggests an innovative art contemplation approach and experience. A central triangle allows direct natural light to pass through to the exhibition courtyard on the ground floor.
Construction system:
The project features a double construction system, in which CLT wood predominates, the concrete structure supports the skylight system and the facades, both designed in wood. Glass is one of the notable materials in this project, far beyond its beautiful appearance, glass is also sustainable as it allows greater use of sunlight, thus making it possible to use less electrical energy. For this reason, a large part of the upper floor is covered in glass, allowing indirect natural light to pass through to the ground floor, which makes the consumption of artificial light on the ground floor quite economical.
