The Way of The Light [WOLT]
The chosen project presents a classical planetarium with modern appearance and cutting edge technology for light providing and distribution. The planetarium is to be situated in an urban communal area, providing visitors and locals with the rare and breathtaking sights of cosmic recreations just behind the corner.
The feature we find most unique and have based all our concept around is the new and promising technology of sunlight harvesting, storing and redistributing a special fibre-optic tubes or sun portals
This new technology is being successfully implemented in various start-up projects around the globe and we found it more than appropriate for a project of this type. The planetarium can be built in any urban or outdoor location as the light gathering processes are not restricted by any geographic, weather, social or economic factors.
The idea of the project was inspired by the trends in urban light and space recreation and the constant need of revising the ever shrinking space in the urban centres of our time.
The complex itself
The building itself is a single construction composed of three segments – Entrance hall, underground passage/connection and the planetarium itself.
The Entrance hall is surviving the main purpose of a lobby. Ticket counter, cafeteria, wardrobe and restrooms are its primary features.Connecting the lobby with the underground passage happens via an elegant and wide spiral staircase. The tunnel itself is where we apply the new and futuristic technologies in a beautiful walk in the darkness leading to the planetarium itself. The Hollow-core fibre optic tubes are providing a unique space-like experience in a few minutes of a walk to the star show ahead. The planetarium is with a classical half sphere design with the exhibition space remaining under the ground level and two emergency exits positioned on the both sides of the building.
The WOLT and the light (in the buildings)
Using pioneer technologies like the hollow-core fibre optical tubes in an ever expanding, evolving and competition driven environment like the urban architecture design should no doubt bring every contemporary project in the spotlight of modelling the future. Environment-friendly and elegant are the way of the light.
