Currently, tensions in the world are a latent issue when visualizing an uncertain future. In a scenario where war has become present, losses reach an unpredictable scale and social devastation is positioned as the greatest challenge to be addressed. On the surface, there is only debris left, and there seems to be no hope to rebuild what once was. It is in this desolate context that ”the light of the lower sky” arises as a bunker / refuge of shelter and hope against fear, uncertainty, and insecurity.
This underground shelter is established as a container of light in the middle of the darkness that predominates on the surface, using natural light tubes, in which the radiation emitted by the sun’s rays is captured and stored, carrying with it this comforting light into the shelter. This light not only illuminates the space, but also carries with it a message of hope for those who seek security during the chaos that the situation presents.
In addition, in a place like this, where the freedom of the outside world is sacrificed by the need for survival, a different and ingenious solution is proposed such as replicating a starry sky inside. This artificial sky reminds the inhabitants of the shelter of the beauty and tranquility of nature, even in the middle of the bleak panorama that surrounds them. The stars shine like flashes of hope, transmitting warmth and security in the middle of darkness. This will not only offer physical protection, but also emotional protection. Here, in the depths of the earth, the survivors find comfort in the beauty of the artificial starry sky. That is why it becomes a home for those who are looking for a new beginning, a place where the scars of the past can heal slowly, and where hopes for a better future can be given once again.
In every detail it has been carefully designed to provide an environment that fosters hope and resilience, so the community that inhabits this shelter not only survives but advances and grows. Companionship and solidarity are encouraged, and the exchange of knowledge and skills to build a joint future is promoted. Arts and culture also have a prominent place in the life of the shelter, serving as a source of inspiration for all its inhabitants.
As time passes, the refuge will become much more than a simple place of survival it becomes a symbol of the ability of the human being to adapt and persevere even in the darkest moments through the light of ”the light of the lower sky” and the strength of its people, being those who once faced destruction the ones who now look towards a future full of hope and possibilities.
