There is a problem faced by many urban developments around the world, that is, the contradiction between cemetery space and urban expansion. It also represents the conflict between the space of the living and the dead.
Especially in the principles of Islam, burial of the body is very important, which inevitably makes land resources more scarce. Therefore, I hope to design a mosque that can satisfy the Islamic communities all over the world, using light as a bridge between life and death, between day and night, and among the world.
For Muslims in Kashgar, Xinjiang, the tradition is that the deceased relatives are not buried far away from their own residences, and the living worship their ancestors as a daily activity. So at the boundary of resolving the spatial conflict between the living and the dead, such a space can be established: to meet their daily worship needs, but also to meet their spiritual needs to commemorate their loved ones, and to guide people to connect here with light.
Let the original spatial contradictions be dissolved by the light, so that the space of the living and the space of the dead blend with each other as in their beliefs.
