With the development of modern society, traditional villages are facing great challenges. Sunlight, which nourishes all living things, holds a paramount position. We try to use sunlight to grow and repair disappearing villages, and with plants we can achieve this.
We selected porous materials as the carrier for plant growth, assembling them in the form of unit cell frameworks and placing sunshade film on the side facing indoors. Only when the exterior wall or roof falls off, sunlight from outside shines on the plant seeds. At this time, due to the light sensitivity of the plant, the plant starts to grow, repairing the broken building.
Additionally, we selected green plants that could be implanted with luminescent genes. After absorbing enough sunlight during the day, the plants fluoresce at night, which increases the vitality of the village and reminds the cracks and endangerment that the village once faced.
By placing the framework into the prototype of the house, the stability of the original structure is enhanced. At the same time, the flexible and changeable nature of the unit frame also makes the space easier to reshape according to people’s usage, which solves the original closure of the rural space.
