Today our society faces ‘Religious Conflict’ that has resulted in violence, discrimination, forced displacement, human rights violation, destruction of cultural heritage and polarization. An unfortunate divide between people. One Light is designed to unify people in spite of diversity. It is a place of gathering not for titles, genders, sexualities, race and religion but for people.
Religious Conflict has been a key point in the design therefore displaying all the religions on the ceiling will pay tribute to those that have lost their lives in wars that were driven by superiority.
The design focuses on providing its visitors with one main source of natural light which is provided from the tube that runs through the ceiling, it is a symbol of unification ‘one’. The natural light shines onto the one thing that we all have in common, that is the need for water.
Water is pure, it has no enemies, beliefs or other person like qualities.
Life seems to always make its way to water, it is a gathering point for all to be nourished by the enrichment of its touch therefore, placing a water feature in the centre of the design will be a symbol for gathering no matter who you are as an individual. The sky-blue silk fabric which drapes from the ceiling is intended to add to the purity of water, its symbolic barrier washes out the negativity of the world focusing on what is important. Human life.
…we all bleed the same blood.
