In Igbo culture, the term “obi” refers to the central living area within a traditional Igbo community, often serving as a gathering place for important family discussions, meetings, and ceremonies. It typically consists of an open-sided rectangular structure with a thatched roof, supported by wooden pillars or walls.
This project aims to design and develop a modern community centre inspired by the traditional Igbo ”obi” concept, exploring the relationship between light and community unity, leveraging daylighting as a means to foster connection and cohesion within the community. The centre will serve as a hub for cultural, social, and educational activities while embracing modern-day architectural and functional elements.
The Facilities are Multipurpose Auditorium, Children’s Playroom, Community Kitchen, Meeting rooms, Gym, Art Studio, Supermarket, Amphitheatre, Lounge, Ezes’ (King’s) office, etc.
