Design Concept for the Vellux Award Competition: The Museum of Light
The Museum of Light is a visionary space designed to harness and showcase the playful nature of natural light through innovative architectural features. The concept is inspired by the geometric elegance of three intersecting circles, termed the ”Rings of Light,” which form the core structural and thematic elements of the museum.
Natural light enters the museum through strategically placed small openings. These openings are meticulously designed to capture sunlight at various angles and times of the day, allowing a dynamic interplay of light and shadow within the space. The light that enters is then reflected off specially designed reflective walls, creating a mesmerizing display that enhances the presentation of the museum’s exhibits.
This intricate dance of light not only illuminates the items on display but also transforms the museum itself into a living, breathing canvas of light and shadow. The reflective surfaces amplify and direct the light, creating ever-changing patterns and highlighting different aspects of the exhibits throughout the day.
The Rings of Light not only serve as a structural foundation but also symbolize the unity of science, art, and nature. They represent the cyclical and intersecting nature of light, space, and time, offering visitors a unique and immersive experience that transcends traditional museum displays.
In the Museum of Light, the ethereal beauty of natural light becomes both a medium and a message, inviting visitors to explore and appreciate the profound impact of light on art, nature, and human perception.
