lightSPACE

_What is light? What is space? How can we, as humans, comprehend light and space?

_Primarily, the questions ”What is light?” and ”What is space?” can be answered in everyday life but grasping them without actively seeking is incredibly challenging. Can you recall a time when you consciously wandered through a city or the countryside, searching for space or light? My project aims to make light in space tangible. The cross-section demonstrates how light varies in its different qualities. A membrane allows dim, weak light to enter the space, while a contrasting beam of light is cast into the room through an opening in the ceiling. At the boundary of the light beam, a contrast between dimmed and bright light is created.

_People who take time out of their daily routine to perceive light in space will discover that the skin is a shell for a space. This membrane reduces everyday information—less light, less noise, less hectic activity. In this space, our brain can begin to relax.

_Those who start to relax will allow the light in the space to affect them. The lighting atmosphere will captivate them. The dimmed light makes us perceive this place as a space where we feel secure.

_And those who have absorbed the light in the space understand how the various light paths can evoke different emotions and moods in our bodies. Thus, my project can take people out of their everyday lives and strengthen them through tranquility.

_The space is a shell. It guides the light. The amorphous form should make the neutrality in the space tangible. It adapts to the light beam, creating a dialogue between light, human, and movement. The form allows one to immerse themselves in the perception of light. In the floor plan, we see that we can enter the slightly lowered space via steps, which subordinates itself to the human. Raised steps offer a comfortable seating option on a cool clay floor, at the interface between direct and indirect light.

_The overview of light in the space can be well understood through my model. Through the model, we can already feel what a pleasant space it must be, one that you are almost drawn into by the light and its qualities.

_To make light in space visible, we need spaces in everyday life to share our ideas with the rest of the world. To subconsciously convey to those who are not actively seeking space or light.

_Where sky and earth meet, light is created. To consciously perceive it, we need structures that capture and make it tangible. Structures that capture the light and make it comprehensible for us humans. The project is an interface between light and space.
