Currently, there are two concepts for heritage protection – maintenance and restoration. Many grottoes and murals in China, as world heritage sites, are facing the risk of weathering and destruction due to natural factors such as sunlight. We have developed a new type of photosensitive material. By applying it to cultural relics, it can restore their original appearance under sunlight and maintain their current appearance in shade. This approach preserves the historical traces of the heritage on one hand, and on the other hand, it brings out its brilliance when illuminated by sunlight. Additionally, the material’s auxiliary properties aid in heritage conservation.
