IN A LAVA MINUTE – A time to reflect your day
We are living in the era of immediacy. We run and run into a fast-paced society that makes even waiting for the public transport an irritating issue. We take inspiration from the sixties and the hippie era to reverse this. The slow, mesmerizing movement of the lava within the lamp can induce a sense of calm and relaxation. Watching the gentle flow of colours can be soothing and help reduce stress levels.
The system of the lava lamp is based on the difference of density of two liquids and how a heat source can make that difference smaller and therefore make bubbles flow through the liquid. We will apply this system into architecture by making glass walls filled with the lava lamp interior. One of the strongest usages would be in bus stops. The daunting minutes of waiting for the next bus to come could become a moment of relaxation and personal reflection thanks to the bubbling ambience surrounding the stop.
The game between the transparencies of the fluids as well as the different colours will make being under the bus a pleasant experience. The sunlight will pass through the transparent fluid while the opaque moving bubbles will throw psychedelic shadows in the interior of the bus stop.
