Presently, exotic pet is dramatically popular in Thailand, while there is a small number of exotic pet hospitals. Exotic pet hospital is a place for the use of medical staffs, owner and exotic society in terms of treatment and academic aspects.
The outstanding characteristic of this project is the design for exotic pet feel like going back home. The main concept of this project is “Tree house”. This is because “Tree” is the original home for them.
This project brings elements of parts of tree to be analysed such as the distribution of branch, colour, leaf, light through tree’s brushes, nourishment by water. The elements were transformed to be central court using the concept of “tree house” to be a center of pathways between functions, while this central area is also worked as a wind distributor to other areas. The project is surround with nature. And, there are green areas inserted in every parts of the project, hence creating comfortable environment suitable for each type of exotic animal for healing effects such as daylighting.
There are many types of exotic pets. The most popular type are reptiles and mammals. Therefor, designing of daylighting and tree house are carefully taken in ward and learning exhibition.
“Double skin façade” and “light tube are used in ward where is a place using for both treatment and the exploration the exotic pet life, and at the same time being a place for absorption of the beauty of architectural elements.
Highlights
1) Ward of reptiles.
Light level required for ward of reptiles is 500-1000 lux. This area is required for the high light level because UVB is essential for their growth. Therefore, the daylighting design should focus only on specific spots. “Light tube” is a solution for this situation. The tube of this daylighting technique is designed by simplifying tree internode with a diameter of Ø35 cm., which can reflect and distribute the light onto the required areas.
2) Ward of mammals
Light level required for ward of mammals is 100-300 lux. This area is required for the low illumination because mammals normally live in dark areas and hollow of a tree. They did not prefer high levels of sunlight and heat. The main requirement of this daylighting design is to make the mammals receive daylight in the morning. “Double skin façade” is used for this purpose. The façade is natural wood lathing with a size of 1’x4’. Moreover, there are some space for wind flow and for achieving the required light level and protect against sunlight.
3) Exhibition
The concept of the exhibition of this project is “Tree of Life”. “Skylight” is used to achieve this concept. The form of the skylight is simplified from leaves of trees. When people look up, it seems like they are standing under the shade of a real tree due to the effect of “crown shyness” happened.
