This project is to consider Chu Hai College Library for daylight enhancement through the building envelope. The library consists of a bridge spanning between the East and West Wings connecting the 4th and 5th floors. The library bridge consists of three fully glazed facades facing South-West, North-East and North-West directions that expose the facades to different daylight conditions.

The current facade has been designed to reduce the impact of the highway traffic noise and to provide shading, therefore, this project will focus on daylighting optimization.

Objectives
The objectives of the project are to use serval skills to achieve the tasks, such as research & analysis, architectural drawing competencies, graphical representation skills, process documentation, digital design technologies and daylight simulation software.

– To understand building envelopes as performing features those aesthetic expressions
– To demonstrate the ability to design performing building envelopes that respond to internal functions
– To respond to the context and climate of the place
– To understand the importance of controlling glare, heat gain, facilitating daylight access and the strategies involved to provide desirable user comfort

To optimize the daylight performance of the building envelope:
a) Select a daylighting / shading strategy
b) Conduct further research for the most critical facade (South-West facing)
c) Develop two facade options for each facade
d) Conduct daylight simulation for each option
