Street houses in Guangdong are celebrated for their narrow fronts and spacious interiors, illuminated by central courtyards. Despite societal change leading to their alteration or demolition, a new architectural vision emerges.
In my research, I noticed that while aging street house walls have cracked, nature thrives within these fissures. This inspired the idea of using ’cracks’ to channel light into buildings, creating spaces that are both sustainable and dynamic.
By integrating these deliberate ’cracks,’ we can enhance our living spaces with natural light, fostering a connection to nature and promoting energy efficiency. This innovative approach could redefine traditional elements in modern living, turning imperfections into opportunities for beauty and environmental harmony.
It’s a step towards buildings that evolve with us, spaces that are more than structures, but living entities that grow with our environment.
