What is the first thing that comes to mind when someone thinks of post-Soviet countries, especially the Baltic states? Most likely the picture that forms in their head is blocks of grey apartment buildings, grey streets, grey people, grey everything. There might be some truth to that, but there is so much more to our beautiful countries and cities. This project gives everyone the opportunity to look at Latvia’s cities through the eyes of the locals and see the true colours of our country through stained glass bus stops. Each bus stop will depict a different city and will allow everyone to look at the seemingly grey surroundings through a colourful lens. In order for these art installations to work there needs to be sunlight that shines through the stained glass panels which makes the location of them important. Most people feel grey in the mornings which means that it is important to start the day with a little bit of colour. The bus stop should be facing west with its back towards the east for the sunlight to illuminate the bus stop from the back, shining the colours forward onto the waiting people in the mornings. The stained glass panels of the bus stop depict the most recognisable landmarks and name of the chosen city making a colourful and condensed skyline. One of the panels remains clear for the purpose of seeing the approaching public transport.
