Biocrease is the joint combination of two words: biophilia + fabric crease. The project intends to introduce a joint world of knowledge and nature. It’s a biophilic library that integrates elements of nature into its design and environment to enhance the well-being and connection of its users with the natural world. This includes features from natural light, indoor plants, green spaces, and materials inspired by nature. The goal is to create a space that feels welcoming, calming, and conducive to learning, creativity, and relaxation.
The skylight in the building design aims to introduce natural light into the interior spaces. By allowing sunlight to enter from above, as well as helping reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day, which can save energy and create a more pleasant environment for visitors,. Additionally, it enhances the aesthetic appeal of a building and contributes to its sense of openness and connection to the outdoors.
The project focuses on how we can manipulate daylight usage with the simplest of design elements without having to resort to technology. It delves into the world of biophilic architecture, exploring how design can work coherently with nature to create a brighter, more sustainable future for daylight utilization. By integrating natural light and greenery, we can enhance the well-being and productivity of building occupants while reducing energy consumption and promoting environmental harmony.
The main concept of the building was to imitate a mountain with its curves and unique nature. Covered in panels that create a path of sunlight onto the floors of the building. This represents the small gardens and oasis hidden in between the high mountains. The shape of the panels represents the leaves of palm trees that Omanis used for most of their daily necessities in the past.
