Call for abstracts: 10TH VELUX Daylight Symposium

10th VELUX Daylight Symposium: Towards Healthy, Resilient, and Sustainable Architecture 

We are pleased to invite researchers, practitioners and other industry professionals to submit an abstract for a presentation at the 10th VELUX Daylight Symposium. This year’s theme focuses on the critical role of daylight in fostering health, resilience, and sustainability in architecture. 

Contributions related to the following topics are welcomed: 

• Daylight, Health and Well-being: research linking daylight to human health and well-being, and its implication for society, urban and building design. 

• Innovative Technologies: new tools, methods, systems and devices for aiding, and informing daylighting design. 

• Future Directions for Daylight Requirements: upcoming challenges and opportunities in daylight-related schemes and policies. 

• Health and Sustainability: how to balance environmental responsibility with the needs for health and well-being of building occupants. 

• Restorative Design: holistic approach to design that seeks to restore balance between humans, nature and the built environment. 

• Daylight and Climate Change: insights on design strategies and actions to mitigate the impact of climate change in the built environment. 

Submission Guidelines: 

To submit an abstract (max. 500 words) for a physical presentation at the 10th VELUX Daylight Symposium in Horsens, Denmark, on 15 May 2025, please send your abstract to thedaylightsite@velux.com. 

The deadline for submissions is 29 November 2024. 

All submissions will undergo a peer-review process by the esteemed scientific committee of the Daylight Symposium:

• Dr. Sergio Altomonte, Professor, Architectural Physics, Université Catholique de Louvain (BE) 

• Dr. John Mardaljevic, Professor Emeritus, Building Daylight Modelling, Loughborough University, (UK) 

• Dr. Juliëtte Van Duijnhoven, Assistant Professor, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (NL) 

• Dr. Jens Christoffersen, Lead Daylight Specialist, VELUX group (DK) 

You can expect to receive a response by 17 January 2025 at the latest. 

If your abstract is accepted for a presentation you will be invited to participate at the symposium free of charge, as well as the side event taking place on 16 May 2025 at the LKR Innovation House located nearby Horsens. Note that you will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements.
